My backup bike because they’re that reliable. An air-cooled single “thumper” with a single carburetor and gravity-fed fuel means the ideal every-day super reliable skinny lane-splitting commuter’s dream that gets around 40 mpg. I added the (removable) Acerbis aux. fuel tank to get to about 160+ miles of range, and the normally weak front brakes are upgraded to Yamaha’s FZ-1 dual piston disc thanks to our local race shop customizer (and if you read about S40’s that’s what lots of people do for fun – turn them into cafe racers, track bikes, antique replicas) – because nothing ever breaks, and the tires even have tubes. Literally becomes the easiest to manage bike you’ve ever owned and loved. The carbon-fiber belt drive means zero maintenance yet chain-drive responsiveness. This one has never been dropped; only has the usual color change to the equally simple exhaust system (which I did wrap with fiberglass to manage the usual melting shoe issue with such an exposed header tube.)
