AJP Motorcycles Information:

AJP Motos is a Portuguese manufacturer of enduro and off-road motorcycles producing single-cylinder.

AJP Motos was founded in 1987 by brothers António Pinto and Jorge Pinto’ in Penafiel, northern Portugal. Beginning as a workshop preparing off-road motorcycles, the company later diversified into manufacturing complete bikes.

The AJP “PR” model range

The PR3, PR4 & PR5 have 4-stroke single-cylinder engines closely based on the Honda XR series engines; and the AJP PR series bikes may be seen as updated equivalents of Honda’s XR200 & XR250 of the 1980s. Each AJP bike has a modern lightweight frame, front & rear disc brakes, a cast-alloy swingarm and a lightweight composite silencer.

  1. The lightweight PR3 is a nimble trail bike fitted with conventional forks.
  2. The PR3 and PR4 can be fitted with either the 125cc or the 240cc motor.
  3. The PR5 has a 250cc motor
  4. The PR4 and PR5 are both aimed at Clubman enduro riders, and have upgraded USD forks.
  5. The “125MR” SuperMoto model for learner riders, which has the same frame as the PR3 and features conventional forks, but with reduced ground clearance and road tyres. Some cycle parts (the rear disc, headlight, etc.) are different from the trail-orientated PR3.
  6. AJP PR7, a single-cylinder 4-stroke, 4-valve, DOHC, liquid cooled, fuel injected 600cc “Adventure” bike. Weight 165 kg (wet), it has fully adjustable front and rear suspension. The PR7’s engine has a balance shaft, a 6-speed gearbox, and it produces 58 bhp and 49 ft-lbs of torque.
AJP History
1985
In 1981, and at the age of only 22, António Pinto opened up a motorcycle repair shop specialized in modifying Enduro and Off-road motorcycles.
1987
AJP Motos was founded and its first creation presented: the ARIANA, equipped with a 125cc two-stroke engine from Casal, bearing the name of António Pinto’s daughter who was born that same year. This bike was produced in a limited series of 25 units, but already presented original technical solutions that would be further explored in future models. AJP Motos 1987
1991
AJP established a partnership with Petrogal (Portuguese Petroleum company – now Galp Energia), whose major results were the development of the AJP Galp equipped with a 50cc two-stroke engine and of a wide range of synthetic oils for 2-stroke engines, as well testing unleaded petrol. AJP Motos 1991
2000
AJP participated in the National Enduro Championship with the GALP 50, winning five consecutive titles from 1996 to 2000. AJP also participated in the National Baja Championship with victories in 1996, 1997 and 1999. AJP Motos 2000
2001
Represented a turning point for the company: the launch of the AJP PR4 with a 125cc four-stroke engine. Once again, innovation was present in this model. The PR4 125cc marked the beginning of AJP’s exporting activity, with the first units being shipped to several European countries such as France, Germany and Great Britain. AJP Motos 2001
2003
AJP moved to a new factory in Lousada and in 2004 presented a new version of the PR4 with a 200cc 4-stroke engine. Despite offering a more powerful engine, this model shared the same components as the original 125cc model. AJP Motos 2003
2007
AJP expanded its business to Spain, Poland, Italy and Greece. In 2007, the AJP PR3 200cc MX is launched. The model featured a new frame concept developed by AJP with aluminium beams bolted to a steel cradle. The simplicity and lightness of this solution revolutionized the bike and its visual appearance, presenting a more modern and attractive design. Soon after, the PRO version was launched, with a set top quality suspension components. Weighing just 89 kg, the PR3 became the lightest four-stroke 200cc enduro bike in the world, with its short wheelbase providing the agility of a competition bike.
2009
AICEP Capital Global becomes a partner of the project and its participation provided the company with the necessary financial resources to further develop its expansion plan. In late 2009, AJP presented its most ambitious project to date: the PR5 series! With EU homologation for road use, the PR5’s 250cc engine was equipped with an electronic fuel injection system and featured all the technology developed by AJP. AJP Motos 2009
2016
This year begins with the presentation of a new prototype, a big trail bike. It was from this prototype that later on, the PR7 was born. AJP Motos 2016
2018
Revolutionary in its own class, the PR7 is born and quickly gains traction among the Enduro fans. From this year on, the presence of AJP on Enduro Championships gains momentum and it becomes clear, AJP is here to stay.
2019
